Ganesha Chaturthi is the most awaited festivals in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana which last for 10 days. This festival is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi in southern part of India. It is celebrated on the Chaturthi fourth day of the waxing moon period this dates usually fall between august and September. This festival is celebrated to honor elephant headed god known as lord ganesha. Ganesh Chaturthi puja is celebrated across India and some other part of the world but maximum grandeur is witnessed in Mumbai and different parts of Maharastra. During the freedom movement Lokmanya Tilak popularized these festivals as a community celebration. This celebration continues for 10 days and end with the visarjan of Ganesh idols. Preparation of grand celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai starts 2-3 month before the festivals. Huge Pandals are erected in all over Mumbai which varies in different shape size and theme. Size of the idols varies from 6 to 3 ft in household celebration and 2ft to 25 ft in community celebration of the festival. Ganesh idols are generally made of POP but now a days eco-friendly idols made clay has good demand. These Idols are in various form shape and size like Lal Baugcha Raja, Dagdu Seth, Shivrekar Baithak, German Couch, Bal ganesh etc. On the very first day of ganesh Chaturthi priest come to do pranpratistha which invokes life into the idols admists the chanting of Mantras. After this puja is performed offering coconut, jiggery , durva leaves, red flowers etc. Ganesh Puja continue for next 10 days and on 11th day a huge procession accompanied with dancing and singing to immersed the idols in the nearby lake, pond or the sea. All the people form the family join in shouting Ganpati Bappa Morya Pudhchya varshi laukar ya.
